This is Bozeman: Midtown Three Years Later

Midtown Bozeman
It’s been three years since I provided readers with a tour of Midtown Bozeman. (http://annvinciguerra.blogspot.com/2017/09/bozeman-touring-midtown.html

While the area hasn’t been transformed, things are progressing with several old places that have been demolished and a few new buildings going up.

The area still has several ramshackle buildings and empty lots, so you can get a feel for the area as I described it in my original post.

We will see what happens with this area – I’m curious to see what the local conversation is around Midtown. Below is an update. I'll add some commentary one of these day. In the meantime, please feel free to add your thoughts in the comments section of this post.

Status Update
Here’s what’s going on with a few of the locations that appeared in the original Midtown tour:

City Center Inn is now totally demolished with no signs of anything happening there any time soon. One gorgeous ponderosa pine remains on the lot. Let’s hope it survives whatever happens next.

Update 7.15.21 - Nights Delight is gone.

EZ Auto is now a car rental place called Next Car, which is part of a chain. Much like EZ Auto, Next Car’s lot is tidy, and the cars look to be in decent shape.

The Starlite Sign building is for sale for $1.1M. The collection of ancient and faded beer cans still sit in the upper window.

7.14.21 update - the building has sold and the beer cans are gone!

Across the street from Starlite the small strip mall is still there. The insurance company remains but Stix, a knitting and yarn shop, has replaced the creepy Vault Gun and Loan shop.

Community CafĂ© in the former Frontier Pies spot has been renamed Fork and Spoon. They are doing a great job serving the community.

K-Mart lot is still empty. It appears to be a good place for skateboarding and mattress dumping - I noticed two discarded mattresses when I biked by the other day.

Not technically Midtown but visited in my original post…. On the 400 block of North Willson, downtown Bozeman’s only trailer park and the squat, one-story apartment building, have been demolished and the Willson 16 townhomes are going up in their place.
“In the heart of Bozeman,” the units are “as spacious as they are modern. It’s a unique opportunity to live in a place that caters to the life you want to lead. …, this is where happiness comes together—all in a great location where you can find a good cup of coffee, a great little shop, or where you can enjoy dinner and a movie any day of the week. The great outdoors enhances your life too …. It’s your whole life—now conveniently gathered in one vibrant place.”
Who writes this fluff?!

Units (2,400+ square feet, three-bedroom, three-bathroom, two car garage, guest apartment) start at $1.1M.

Midtown Additional News: (Not mentioned in the original post)

The old Rainbow Motel is now the RSVP Motel. It doesn’t look much different that the original. Attached to it is the Farmer’s Daughter, a breakfast and lunch place.

The Elm is a new venue by the Logjam Presents, the people remodeled the Wilma and run the other awesome venues in Missoula. It is expected to open in December. This is good news for music lovers.

Update - The Elm opened in September!

Nu2U Thrift Shop is gone. The building is for sale, but I couldn’t find a listing.

The Intensive Car Repair on the corner of Durston and 7th has been demolished and a new building is going up. According to this article from 2019, it will be a brew pub and apartments. It towers over the computer repair shop immediately to the north and the building already fills much of the lot. There doesn’t appear to be much room for parking and the building sits surprisingly close to the sidewalk. We will see what becomes of it.

A commercial/residential building, Aspen Crossing, is going in along Aspen Street replacing Mixers, Fiesta Mexicana and a small trail park

This blog a good overview of what's going on in Bozeman. It's updated regularly. One of the posts from June 24 provides an overview of downtown development and it's disturbing to see all of the boutique condos and mid-rise buildings going in.
