The A-List Eats - El Rodeo Taco Bus

El Rodeo Taco Bus Bozeman, MT
A tried writing a travel article a while back (http://annvinciguerra.blogspot.com/2018/11/travel-writer.html). Now it's on to a restaurant review. I think I need help with both.

Update 11.11.2021: They have moved to 509 North 7th Avenue. near Rikki's Furniture and Access Fitness.

I craved tacos, those simple meals ensconced between a tortilla. Meat, vegis, cheese, a dose of heat, basic food that always pleases. Tacos have become so widespread and popular even picky, unadventurous eaters like them. In some ways, they've become an American staple.

Earlier this week, Mike and DD joined me in search of tacos. While we were curious to try the boutiquey new cantina that recently opened in one of Bozeman's mid-rise buildings, we were in a casual mood and we opted for the taco bus, El Rodeo.

The El Rodeo bus is located in the old, crumbling parking lot near the ramshackle Gibson's building on West Main Street. A while back a rumor circulated that a Trader Joe's was going in the Old Gibson's spot, but a hand-stenciled sign on the building says the property is for sale and encourages interested buyers to "make an offer." Either way, the taco truck has been in the spot for years, but last week was the first time Mike, DD or I had been.

At the last minute, I decided against tacos and ordered the the burrito with green salsa and guacamole. It was a healthy portion but not huge. Tender chunks of pork and refried beans provided the bulk and the green salsa was fresh and had nice kick to it. The guacamole was perfect - a bit chunky with small bits of onion and specks of cilantro that didn't over power. The avocados were allowed to shine as they should - the El Rodeo folks didn't bother with lots of lemon, garlic or other add-ins people sometimes load into guacamole.

While we were there, a steady stream of people came and went - young families, outdoor dudes, millennial hipsters, middle-age hipsters such as ourselves, even a few folks that ordered in Spanish - it was a nice cross-section of the Bozeman community. Some sat at the plastic picnic tables as we did, others got to-go orders and a few sat inside the small dining area in the bus.

There is nothing stylish or trendy about El Rodeo, but, like the simplicity of the taco, it was a great yet basic place to linger with good friends, enjoy a great meal and chat on a nice summer evening.

While I have nothing against the boutique taco place, I don't rail against the new and trendy as persistently as some do, it was nice to do something different that the typical Bozeman restaurant. At El Rodeo we had a great meal at a reasonable price. It was a chance to enjoy a meal in a low-key setting without the deafening noise that seems to predominate so many restaurants these days.

A chill time was had by all. The A-List endorses the El Rodeo taco bus.
