In my writing group this week, we did an imitation exercise. We were to describe either a piece of clothing we own or were wearing in the style of the advertising copy in the J. Peterman catalogue. I wrote about my ski boots and decided to refine the piece here. It was a fun exercise and a great way to move my creativity in a new direction.
Your ski buddy Chuck invites two friends to join you on a backcountry ski tour. You meet the others at the trailhead but you only know Chuck. There's another guy there, some big, blocky fellow, but you can't take you eyes off of her. The thin nylon ski cap, black ski pants, all very ordinary. But the boots. A ski boot in scuba blue, the SCARPA Gea, this year's color. The boots make the outfit and let you know she's a girl who gets after it. You long to know her.
There's no doubt she's the one who will guide your group today. She will break trail, set the pace, pick the lines. She's the one who will coax you up for one more lap long after your legs and your lungs are screaming, "No more!"
Three buckles, one power strap, ski mode, and walk mode. Weighing in at just under 5.5 pounds, the SCARPA Gea is light enough to be speedy but heavy enough to tackle funky conditions.
SCARPA Gea girls know where to find the best powder. They are the "It" girls of the backcountry ski world. You ignore Chuck and the blocky dude, mosey your way to the front of the line, and hope
something intelligent comes out of your mouth.
