Lifestyle Apparel Alert - Kitsbow Cycling Apparel

Although biking isn’t my primary passion, I guess I’ve ordered enough biking gear over the years to be labeled a biker and as a result, a Kitsbow catalog arrived in my mailbox. Founded by mountain bikers in 2012, the company aims “to create the riding apparel we couldn’t find: A perfect balance of technical performance, timeless design, and impeccable tailoring.”

I’m not sure how important tailoring ranks for Bozeman area bikers, but at Kitsbow, it’s a big deal with the About Us page of their website stating, "we believe that if apparel isn’t tailored, it’s sloppy. The entire Kitsbow line is cut for the cyclist’s form, on and off the bike."

They go on to say, “we’re proud to offer craftsmanship that keeps you comfortable in all conditions, from trail to town.”

If you have any doubt this is a lifestyle apparel company, read a few gems from the catalogue and you will be convinced…

The Icon Shirt V2 ($220)  “Built function-first for life on two wheels,” this is a snap button plaid shirt seemingly like any other but made of Pendleton wool and featuring Schoeller® patches on the elbows and shoulders.

Really, Pendleton wool? While Pendleton has a well-earned reputation for their sturdy wool blankets, I’m having a hard time envisioning mountain biking in it.

Alpha snap jacket ($295) - This is an insulated jacket that “melds an urban sense of clean-lined style with covert fabric technology.” Made of Polartec® Alpha insulation, a material offering “adaptable breathability and core body temperature regulation during high exertion activities, wet, or dry; while also keeping you warm on a casual stroll.”

An earlier version of this jacket was named one of best apres jackets of 2016 by Outside magazine, https://www.outsideonline.com/2021851/best-apres-jackets-2016 “Leave it to Bay Area–based, style-conscious Kitsbow to make a shacket we actually want to wear.”

Shacket. It’s not a typo.
